Attendance

Attending classes and learning in the class from the learned faculty is a critical step towards growth and development of students, as the relevant skills required by the Industry have to be learned in a systematic and progressive manner in the class room. Consistency in attendance is, therefore, a pre-requisite. Absence from class leads to discontinuity in learning and defeats the very approach of progressive learning, as subjects are inter-related, missing one session may lead to confusion when next session is being conducted.
Consequently, it is not only difficult but may put those students under tremendous pressure leading to stress, frustration and depression. This is particularly so because normally a student studies about six subjects per year during graduation, whereas, in PGDBM they have to study more than ten subjects every semester. We have come across quite a few cases where students have become psychiatric cases because of the work pressure. Therefore, attending classes regularly is essential for any student who joins a good management institution. Similarly, studying at home/hostel regularly everyday shall lead to expected growth and development.
IIEBM does not believe in the concept of holidays. Each and every class is critical for learning in a progressive manner. Therefore, for exemption of attendance on medical/ any other grounds will not be accepted. Parents are advised to please understand the constraints of their child who has a medical history and discourage them to take up our stressful management program which is very hectic in nature with prolonged hours throughout the year. Students may undergo tension and depression and may not be able to express their difficulties either to their parents or the management. At IIEBM, requirements of the learning process are stringent in nature and cannot be changed.
A minimum of 85% attendance is compulsory. Those who maintain 95% attendance will be awarded an incentive of 5 marks per subject. Those who fail to clock 85% attendance will be placed in 'Red List' and may not be allowed to appear in the examinations.
It would be appropriate to mention that one should not get disturbed and understand that attendance criteria provide sufficient cushion as the permissible limit of absence is 15% every semester. If one calculates the total days one can legitimately be absent from the classes on account of sickness or other important contingencies, it works out to more than 12-13 days in a semester provided the students attends all classes regularly from the beginning and saves the 15% attendance for contingencies. To be away from class for casual reasons and also remain absent on medical grounds or other contingencies cannot be justified.
It is not an issue of writing examination but inculcating self-discipline and commitment.
We, as an institute cannot restrict the movement of students. There is no system of leave with attendance. Grant of leave means permission to remain away from the campus on personal reasons which cannot entitle grant of attendance.

No half day leave shall be granted and students are advised not to approach the management for the same
